Harlequin shrimp in Sogod Bay, Leyte

Philippines Snorkeling Tour: Sogod Bay, Leyte

Our snorkeling tour of the Central Visayas in the Philippines began with a visit to Sogod Bay in southern Leyte. The reefs in Sogod Bay are amazing to snorkel upon, and the area is scenically beautiful. Of course, there are many, many places in the Philippines where that would be true, but when you have whale sharks and crazy critters like harlequin shrimp, comets (see our blog, A comet in the ocean), and nudibranchs all on full display in shallow water, you know it was a magical experience. Plus, the bonus of lots of reproductive activity among fishes (see our blog Eggs on the reef: Anemonefish reproduction) and invertebrates!

Our host, Sogod Bay Scuba Resort, provided the area’s best in accommodations, food, and boat support and made our stay even that much more special. Check out the photos below to get an idea of just how much fun we had and how lucky we were to see some of the reef’s prettiest and craziest critters!
